Interactions with several people, to come together and produce 2d and 3d designed drawings to send to check for clearances and combability of parts, so when it is being constructed on site everything is smooth and easy. I use mostly MicroStation to create these drawing, and when completed I send for checking.
I have learnt lost of new skills, I knew next to nothing about Cad before starting and now I am fully competent in 2D and 3D design, I have developed my interpersonal skills and confidence as well due to having to co operate with people on projects. As well as the knowledge about the industry I have naturally picked up through working.
I personally believe the programme is great, I have lots of support at work and I get time to work on my uni work. The programme is interesting and very technical which I enjoy as well as constant learning through my programme with rotations every year which I look forward to.
At the start of the programme there was a few unknowns but now settled in, I have a structured programme with a great support network for Work, ICE and university. I have a set university day and my days are organised with set pieces of work to do every week.
As previously said, there is great support network with a buddy system with a older apprentice, a delegated engineer for my Ice, and my whole team are approachable and helpful with any support I may need. I feel very comfortable at work asking for help and it is a healthy environment.
Obviously, I have my lectures and a module leader for each module that I can contact if I need any support, some lecturers are more supportive than others but overall I have had a good experience with support from my training provider. Only drawback is only having monday for uni means I cannot attend a lot of revision session etc when they are a different day.
It depends from module to module, but It is definitely very useful, I can see for most of university lectures how it ties in with my actual work in the office, I think this is very useful and helps me do better at university due to previous experience in aspects.
There are several events held by work often, such as sports and events, I personally have not attended any of these events yet. As well as food events in working hours, and many other activities you can get involved with. as well as optional training courses such as a tower climbing course if you were interested.
Yes
I think its a great environment to work in with lots of opportunities to progress through the company after completing the apprenticeship. It is an interesting job with lots of sectors and being moved every year gives a real scope into all areas during the apprenticeship. All of this leads me to recommend the company.
Ask questions in the interview and just be yourself, mention anything you may have done, that links to the field of the company. I think an important part is to make sure you research the company before the interview so you show that you are interested in what we do.
