Responsible for facilitating the internal and live release preparations from code freeze. This involves working closely with Release Scrum Teams to ensure tasks are complete or resolved. Investigate Issues found during the release prep window and locate the root cause and manage the fix. Communicate with the client Release Team.
I have learned the basics of coding with Java. I have developed my confidence and presentation skills due to communicating with the client daily. I have greatly improved my leadership and managerial skills by leading a giveback project with other apprentices.
My tasks vary day to day to respond to the needs of the client this allows me to interact with different people on my project. I am responsible for managing releases internal and live and urgent fixes, this makes me feel like an important asset to the project.
IBMs Apprentice programme is well structured having inductions at the start of the programme and constant check ins with managers and buddy's. There is a learning platform where you can develop or gain new skills in your free time so you are always busy doing something important.
My employer has supported me throughout my apprenticeship so far with regular check in calls. I know I can go to my manager or my buddy if I have any questions or need support, I know i will be heard and action will be taken from our conversation.
During my apprenticeship so far my training provider has provided resources which would help further my skills outwith university alongside advice on how to balance work and study. They are very considerate and knowledgeable when you ask any questions.
With what I have learned so far I can see the link with university work and what's in the Industry however some of this is outdated with IT being an ever growing business that is constantly adapting and developing it's resources and systems.
There a multiple social activities to get involved in at work, ranging from dinners, parties, and weekends away for team building. I recently attending an apprenticeship event representing IBM which was great for networking.

The benefits IBM offers are very good and considerate along with the experience you gain. You are not made to feel like a 'traditional apprentice' who does small errands however is someone who plays a very important role on your project.
Practice soft skills like presenting, creative thinking, and responsibility as these are the key things employers look for. Don't feel afraid to apply for a role you think you don't qualify for as these skills can always be developed. Be YOU!
