On a typical day, I attend project meetings with the entire team, for example, standups where I say what I accomplished yesterday, what I plan to do today, and any blockers/issues I face. Additionally, I code tickets I am assigned during other times of the day as well as review /test other developers code.
I have grown a lot of skills within this apprenticeship. I have greatly developed in my inter-personal skills, such as teamwork, working independently, taking responsibility for the work I do, being flexible. In addition to this, I was able to develop my technical skills through the projects I was on and the company also puts an emphasis on making time for learning to develop yourself further.
I really enjoy and appreciate this opportunity I have been given. I think this program and company have allowed me to develop my technical and personal skills a lot. In particular, the fourth year, where I am currently able to work the entire year and see how it would be like to be a full-time software engineer.
I think this programme is structured well as I knew what each year consisted of, for example, how many and what modules were taken during the year. In addition to this, fourth year was explained to us and we were able to say what types of projects we would like. However, there are certain aspects that need clarity, for example, post-apprenticeship.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. Specifically within my day-to-day work, employees within the team make time whenever I have issues or problems I am facing and are able to help me find a solution. In terms of general issues, there are resources available to aid in resolving it and also people to reach out to.
In terms of working towards my qualifications, I believe my employer is very supportive. I am able to take 2 days of study leave per exam I have at the end of a semester and also have the day of the exam to prepare and complete it. If you do feel stressed about exams, my employer is able to help out in this matter and support apprentices.
My training provider has structured the university side of the programme well, whereby modules cater to different knowledge and skills we need to accomplish by the end of the apprenticeship. The knowledge and skills gained are also transferable to the work carried out at work, for example, coding best practices.
There are a lot of social and extracurricular activities being run at work. For example, there are various sports groups like badminton and football that meet up every week for all employees. In addition to this, socials are planned multiple times a year to allow employees to catch-up with each other.
Yes
The company culture is very good in the company, for example, the people I have worked with on various projects have been extremely supportive and helpful whenever I face any issues and help me resolve them quickly. If i would like to learn about a specific topic or work on specific projects, the company helps in this matter.
I would work on what are your strengths and weaknesses in terms of inter-personal skills like teamwork, working individually, thinking critically, time management, etc. In addition to this, I would think of examples related to these skills to show what you are able to do well, as well as an issue you faced and resolved (how you used/ developed a skill further due to that issue).
