In my job role I oversee all daily operations that take place in a busy 195 bedroom hotel plus F&B accommodating up to 300 diners/ day. My team comprises of 4 duty managers, a head housekeeper and a kitchen manager that help me run a team of 60+ employees. We focus on measures such as guest feedback, apprenticeships, health and safety, finance, team retention, sales, stocks and any unexpected issues that come up while keeping up with all the current updates in our sector. We are also part of a region so our work streams sometimes extend regionally.
I have learned many new skills such as : How to deal with a grievance How to follow performance management with an employee How to pass nsf How to pass finance audit How to investigate variances How to run a full team meeting
I find the programme useful and has helped me build confidence in my job role. I find the content very well structured and engaging. It’s also not very overwhelming and the way is scheduled gives me time I need to work and study at the same time.
Very well structured in terms of time and content. I am able to easily schedule my time to be able to attend all webinars and face to face and also complete the activities at the same time as working as well.
Enough support. My line manager is available most times I need and he checks up on my progress regularly.
Good support. I have managed to keep in touch and I am able to ask questions any time I need anything. My training provider has been available and has checked up on my progression with the activities.
It helps me because it puts everything I do daily in my role into context. It helps me make sense to why we do , what we do, the way we do it. And that helps me be more assertive, especially when I need to cascade information to someone else in my team.
We regularly hold development / networking days with other DHM’s from the region. This has helped me understand how the wider business operates.
Yes
Because I found that whitbread looks after its employees not only in terms of progression but also in offering salaries that are above the minimum, plus other bonuses, incentives and other financial support. They offer a good environment to work .
Be consistent. Speak up about what you want to get out from working for whitbread as there is always a way to follow that can get you there.
