My overall role within the business is to assist projects etc with administration help such as travel booking, meeting support etc. Day-to-day I help people in my office with tasks that support my offices business needs. Specific tasks depend on each placement.
I have learnt so many new skills since starting my apprenticeship with Babcock. I have developed on my software skills such as Excel when using/creating spreadsheets. I have also learnt a variety of communication skills such as writing emails and talking face to face with new people everyday.
I enjoy my programme a great deal. I think it offers us apprentices a wide range of opportunities and skills to take away whilst building up our confidence etc. I think they give us a lot of responsibility but have continued support to help push you to be the best that you can be.
The programme is well organised and thought-out. We have 3 placements in our first year and a year long placement for our second. I enjoy this way of doing things as it lets us see many sides of the business and exposes us to what we may want to do in the future as a career. As each placement is different it also helps you to develop skills from a variety of projects/programmes etc.
I receive a great deal of support. We have a monthly 1-1 (catch up) to see how I am doing within my placement with my line and office manager. This is to discuss what tasks I have been set and making sure I have an appropriate workload and a place to bring up ant success/issues that I may be having. I also have a weekly 1-1 with my placement manager where I can discuss the above subjects and just to check in on how I am feeling about my week just gone. My managers also reiterate that they are only a phone call away so any issues I can bring to them.
We receive support from our training provider through emails etc mainly as our assessor visits our site instead of us going to college. We also have an in person catch up around once every two months to see how we are getting on through our college work and how we are feeling overall about the tasks being set.
I think our qualification is sometimes difficult to relate to our role a work as we are doing an administration apprenticeship but a customer service qualification. Some things that are needed to pass are hard to prove that you are doing it within your role as the two topics don't always 100% match up. However we do receive support to help us with this issue.
We volunteer to help with career fairs and awards evenings to help get more involved with our work and the business. We also plan social get to togethers outside of work to bring the team together such as pub quizzes/apprentice meals etc. The business also offer networking events for young people, women, men's mental health, neurodiversity etc to bring groups of likeminded people together.
Yes
Babcock as a company not only offer great apprenticeship schemes but they are a company who look after you with things like sick pay, a great pension scheme etc. I think that the company is great to work for overall and I enjoy coming to work everyday. Each day brings something new.
I would come in with an open mind, this apprenticeship is not what i thought it would be (in a good way). I'm doing so much more than I originally thought.
