My job role is a network engineer which basically means that I get to operate on the very foundational layer of communication and packet transferring. My day to day consists of logging on from my home office and ensuring that customers needs are met through my performance. I work 8 hours a day and love it!
I have developed significantly in my time at Barclays and have learnt to exercise parts of my brain that I didn’t expect to encounter. I have learnt both networking and professional skills that have enabled me to nurture my career progression. This has helped me gain multiple promotions.
I really enjoy the programme and every one of my teachers at university are absolutely amazing. They are always there to support and have made a lot of people fee very comfortable. There are periods of stress which is to be expected but they are handled with grace by the university.
The programme is well structured and has allowed me to progress massively in my soft skills. It has given me something incredible to work off and a foundation for my future career. The programme lasts 4 years and in each year you get to learn more and more technical and professional skills through both full time employment and university sessions.
My employer was incredibly supportive in this time and has helped to boost me forward and bolster my learning from university in the work place. This has enabled me to exceed me own expectation in university and come out with a garunteed first. This has really helped to build my confidence in other areas of my work life.
MMU were wonderful and kind when providing me with training and help. They have bolstered my learning and encouraged me to reach for more than I expected myself to achieve. This was an amazing experience and I recommend going to MMU if the option arises. They were simply fantastic to work with.
I feel that most of the time my training at university helps me succeed in my role. There are some exceptions as to modules and units that weren’t relevant but not everything can be tailored for one student. But I can definitely say that it has helped with my role.
At my workplace I am very lucky in the way that there is an abundance of extra opportunities for fun and hobbies. I have taken part in multiple events my favourite being the bonfire night. I have also attended some very useful professional sessions that helped boost my networking skills.

Barclays has been an incredibly supportive and inviting experience for me. It has both helped me grow and understand what it means to be a working professional. This is an experience you don’t get in a lot of other jobs. It is Lowe intensity for a lot of the time but things can get a little bit tricky. This being said the support is ALWAYS there.
Make sure you research the company and the role you are looking at and tell them why you genuinely care about getting it. There is no use applying for a job if you don’t actually want it! Show the interviewer that you understand the companies values and perhaps tell an anecdote from your life that relates to the company.
