I am an associate at PwC. This is the starting role in our work as auditors. This involves working on a day to day basis with our client and our team to receive their company information, where we perform tests and investigation over this to assess its accuracy and reliability.
I have learnt to improve by time management and ability to prioritize certain tasks. We have an online Calendar where I track my meetings, and I have a dashboard where I track the workflow assigned to me, and so what my outstanding activities to complete are when they are due by.
I enjoy working with the group of people that Cambridge Office has. Everyone is friendly, very helpful and approachable and full of knowledge and expertise that they can share with me. I enjoy the aspect of testing and learning what we are achieving by doing these tasks and tests in our work.
Our programme is very well structured. Having a year to settle in at university and learn all the fundamentals is a great way to start. From then on, being able to refine our knowledge with more detailed exams to study for, and they coming away to implement it on placement is a great learning approach.
We receive a lot of support. We have manager and in charges on every team who check in on us while on client engagements. We have assigned career coaches and buddies who are very approachable and regularly contact us checking in on our progress and wellbeing while we are on placement.
Reading University put on many hours of revision sessions in our summer term when we return from placement. They also have forum pages and contact details for us to reach out to whenever we have any questions or queries. We also have mentors who we have the opportunity to check in with once a term at a minimum.
I feel it does. A lot of what we learn at university we see in practice whilst working on client engagements. A lot of the earlier modules from our course often have proved less relevant to our job role, but occasionally you do see a piece of technical knowledge from those modules appear useful.
Yes, we have monthly bowling club to attend on the third Thursday of the month. We also have a social and wellbeing pillar who regularly hold social events for the office, including top golf, bake offs and games nights. We also have a budget to eat out when staying away on client work.
Yes
PwC has a great culture for coaching and development, whilst acknowledging the time it takes to develop and that it is a process and not instant. There is a great atmosphere reflected from the quality characters that are employed and part of our Cambridge office. This makes adjusting to life in this company far easier.
Understand that it is hard work. Hours are long at times, but with time you will see improvement and progress but you have to be patient to see this. If you are happy with this, then my advice is to apply. You will become part of a great group of workers.
