My job involves checking in guests, ensuring financial compliance, running restaurant, training team, servicing guest rooms, supporting team and management, answering the phone, amending reservations, making bookings. My day to day role is to ensure that all guests are looked after before anything else and to follow brand standards of company.
I have learnt alot of new skills around stock, managing outbookings, refurbishment, brand standards and food and beverage. I started in housekeeping and from there learnt how to use the receptiin system. Once I coukd do that I then learnt what and how a duty manager runs the day to day business .
I enjoy many aspects of the programme. I was especially pleased when the system moved to Aptem as this meant not having to switch between platforms to complete the learning. I enjoy how in depth the subjects are and it gives me an opportunity to think more about things from a business point of view rather than a team member.
The program itself is well structured. Each month there are tasks to complete and you know what is required by following the learning plan. The strucure is good from the learning provider however to actually find time at work to complete the tasks is difficult. As a result it can make the course longer.
I have not recieved a huge amount of support. I do not think that the company or management understands how time consuming it can actually be and that the calls that you need with your learning coach aswell as well as the skills days where we are out of the busoness.
The support I have recieved has been great. My learning coach has been amazing aswell as the trainers that conduct the skills days. If I need any support there is always someone I can contact to help me via phone, email or text message. A really good/caring training provider.
It helps me have a better understanding of not just the day to day job role but also how the business is structured and how they make decisions around the operation of the business. It has helped me to be able to complete tasks I would otherwise have no clue about.
There are many other activities you can do. Working with neighbouring sites to help each other out (networking). We also have social events especially around charity. We also have many trrining things we can do including first aid, evac chair training and operational workshops we can join to learn more about the business.
Yes
I would recommend for many reasons. We have great teams, the pay is good compared to some other hospitality businesses. We are all in it together and a force for good. We are also supported by managers to help us achieve that good customer service that has our guests coming back time and time again.
To be honest around your needs around hours and days you can work. Dont say you can do any shift anytime if you have other commitments (school run, religion). Ensure you ask questions and make sure you clearly understand the job your applying for if its not for you then be honest about it.
