Completing work towards statutory audits on asset wealth management businesses.
Yes, IT skills including increased proficiency in typing and excel. New knowledge in many arrears of accounting and business management.
I enjoy my programme a lot, it is good to have a balance between two terms at University (Newcastle) and a term of practical work experience (in Edinburgh) and a long summer holiday. A good balance between a typical Uni degree and an apprenticeship. Both Newcastle and Edinburgh are great.
Very well, there is liasons with the University, PwC and ICAEW and things are generally communicated really well surrounding things like key dates, professional training hours, exams and expectations. In my experience, all of the staff at PwC and Newcastle University are approachable and more than happy to make time for us students/employees.
Whilst on placement for 4 months, there is lots of direct support from your client specific team which I spend most of my day with, this will include learning new skills/technical knowledge as well as going through questions/reviews. Outside of the main team, there is a comprehensive support network including a career coach and a university liaison who in my case are approachable and reactive to any issues.
Lots! PwC pay for the exams and study materials and in the case of the last 3 exams you get two months to study at a college prior to sitting the exams which is paid for by PwC. Teams/manager's are also very understanding if you have college/exam commitments and resourcing will respond accordingly.
Completely, I apply the knowledge I've gained by training as a chartered accountant daily, ultimately the daily role is to gain comfort with a company's financial reporting and recording processes. Without an understanding of accounting this would be a very difficult process as I am sure you can imagine!
Yes, I play football in the intra-office five aside weekly. There is also company provided socials for the cohort of apprentices as well as whole office and team specific socials - these have included bowling, quizzes and meals out. There is also a PwC rugby six nations tournament this year which is an annual inter company competition.
Yes
In my experience, the people are all approachable and considerate. You are also in an environment which encourages self improvement and you will gain technical skills as well as a broader commercial awareness. There is opportunities to progress as well as transfer between offices/departments/countries.
