On a day to day basis my work is split between office work and lab work. I quality control test and release packaging components such as vials, stoppers, drums etc when i am in the labs and the office work sees me updating major documents and supporting drug product development work.
I have learnt many new skills as well as developed existing ones such as presentation skills as we are constantly speaking to people around the world. A new skill that i have developed is how to talk to non technical people about a technical subject and how is best to make the understand something when they dont work in that area.
I really enjoy my programme, the people I work with are patient and kind as well as making sure they push me out of my comfort zone to really enable me to develop. My work is interesting and I look forward to being able to learn more so that I can support with new projects.
My programme is very well structured, I have 4 days working for AZ mon-thurs and then 5th day is my study day Fri. My colleagues are respectful of my study day so that it is completely meeting free enabling me to do my university work.
I receive lots of support from my supplier, I have one hour a week with my line manager to discuss work related topics and I have one hour a week with my mentor who discusses work and university related topics which enables me to align my uni work and work work together.
My lecturers are always willing to put time in with myself to provide support to me when working towards my submissions or if I don't understand parts of a lecture. The sessions are really interactive creating a open space for me and my cohort.
The degree that I am doing is a new course meaning that I will be 1 of 16 with this qualification in the UK when I graduate. This means that I can provide new learnings to the group and discuss interesting topics with them.
We have weekly apprentice meetings both site specific and also globally, these consist of informal coffee mornings or even quizzes. We have many interactive groups such as the apprentice mental health group or the inclusion and diversity group for all employees.

AstraZeneca is a great place to work. The people are friendly and you learn so much from everyone, not just from your team. They are really keen on networking and social events as well as other pressing topics such as sustainability. The offices are well organised and there are plenty of break areas to relax.
To prepare for their interview well - do their background research on the company and be yourself because they look for people which demonstrate character and show what they are passionate for.
