Higher Apprentice Review

My job title at Jaguar Land Rover is a Project Engineer, the first year of our apprenticeship is spent full time at college doing a general engineering course hoping to gain a broad understanding of all engineering disciplines. daily tasks can include maths, thermofluids, materials, ASSET, business improvement techniques and many more lessons. In my time spent in working environment I spend my time shadowing other people who do the same role, this includes going to meetings and learning the ins and outs of the job role.

Yes, during my time spent in college I've learnt a lot about other subjects such as thermofluids, electrical wiring, electronic principles and many more. These are subjects which i would not have been able to learn about had i not been involved with this apprenticeship. I have also learnt hand on skills with machinery such as lathes, millers and welders. this has given me a good understanding of different processes and how things are made and manufactured.

I really enjoy this programme, theres such a variety of work and always more to learn. There is a lot of work involved but i feel with hard work all this can be achieved and the outcome will be a positive one.

Jaguar is such a large organisation so it is hard not to feel like such a small part of this, but i do feel valued in my own role and i will continue to feel more valued as i get in to my job role and start to contribute more.

My programme is very well organised and structured. from the induction through to the training i always feel like theres support where i need it.

You receive a lot of support from the training provider, there are also many approachable people to talk to if you are having difficulties in any lessons or any other areas.

I do not see my employer enough in the first year to feel i need support from them, when my work is more directly involving them i'll have a better understanding of how good there support is.

The salary overall is very good in comparison to other apprenticeships, also the structure of pay rises is very good.

there is a programme where you have credits to use to take part in activities of your choice, i haven't tried this yet but i know these are available.

great opportunity and great prospects, they seem to look after there employees and continue to grow as a company.

when applying, always give yourself plenty of space and time. For the assessment and interview process be yourself, do plenty of research. Take in to account that this isn't your standard 9-5 job, this job requires you to be flexible and spend your own time learning and researching to completing assignments.
