My role is to oversee multi site hotels and lead the team there to deliver against their KPIs whilst being compliant. I also work in the wider region to help support and develop other deputy managers and teams. This involves leading by example, delivering meetings and on-site coaching with teams.
I have learnt some new skills since being on the apprenticeship, I have learnt how to use aptem and upload documents. I have also tapped into some existing skills and knowledge that I haven’t used for a while due to differing natures of the business. I have also learnt to be more organised, to cope with the challenge of a day-to-day job and apprenticeship.
I am really happy with the programme. It is varied and enjoyable with lots of different topics and ways of learnings. Having completed Maths and English to grade C level at school meant that I didn’t need to complete functional skills which was handy as I think that would have been too much.
Very organised and structured, the courses flow easily from one to the next. I am happy with the content and should I have any issues or concerns my mentor is always on hand to provide support. Aptem is simple to use and I have found the content works well alongside my workload.
My employer is very good at providing support. Checking in on a monthly basis to make sure I am on track or if I need any help or support. We attend regular meetings to check our progress alongside my mentor and this helps support with confidence and competence amongst the group. Happy with the level of support I receive.
I receive lots of support. I receive regular texts, emails and calls. My mentor sets up regular 1:1s alongside my manager to check my progress and is really fantastic.
It is giving me more of an overview and insight into different ways of business thinking. From my experience, it has definitely helped me perform better in my job role.
I’m not aware of any extra curricular activities through Whitbread, however there may be. I feel I have quite an active social and sports led lifestyle currently anyway and don’t feel that I would have a lot of extra time to participate in other activities on a regular basis.
Yes
I am very biased as I have worked for the company for nearly 28 years so I am very loyal, however if they were a rubbish company to work for then maybe I wouldn’t still be here. There’s always bumps in the road with any employer but I have always found them to be fair, rewarding and competitive which matches my characteristics.
Work hard. Having a will to succeed alongside a can-do attitude can take you a long way. As in any job role, behaviours and respect work wonders. If you want a career in hospitality, I can definitely recommend Whitbread and the apprenticeship scheme. Be yourself.
