My role as an engineering technician in my first year is to learn the basic skills that I will need throughout my apprenticeship. Learning about how to use different machinery while also studying for my foundation degree allows me to have a good balance between the practical tasks and also the paperwork tasks.
I have been able to develop my skills and techniques on basic machinery while also learning new skills on machinery I've never worked on before. My teachers in the workshop help me learn how to use these skills and allow me to practice them in order to develop my understanding.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme as I have been able to have a good work/life balance and also just really enjoy all of the aspects of the programme. I've met loads of new people by working over at two different plants which allowed me to network with other apprentices.
The programme is very organised as I always know what I will be doing on a daily basis and where I am supposed to be. Having a structured programme makes it very easy to know what I need to do to prepare for the day and what I will need to accomplish.
My employer has always gone over and above for me whenever I needed help. If I ever have a problem I will go to my employer and it will be resolved really quickly. I weekly daily updates on where my employer will be on every day of the week so I know where to find her if I need any help.
I receive plenty of support from the provider as I work towards my foundation degree this year. Through the first semester one of my teachers did extra sessions for some students to help them understand topics that they weren't sure on in lessons. If I was struggling on a task then my teacher will help me one on one to ensure that I understand the task.
Using knowledge from units that I have already completed have allowed me to have a greater understanding of certain tasks in the workshop. For example, by completing the Math's unit I was able to apply this in the electronics and electrical topic to help work out different values in circuits.
I have joined a 6 a-side football club after work which is run by another apprentice that has since got more and more popular and is now 9 a-side. This has given me another way to network with other apprentices and has allowed me to get to know apprentices that I haven't really spoken to a lot before.

Bmw group is a very high end company that treats their apprentices just like they would treat their fully trained professionals. The apprentices are treated with respect and everyone likes to help out each other. The company is extremely helpful in every way and the benefits that you get from the company are just amazing.
When applying to BMW all you need to do is know that the apprenticeship that you are applying for is 100% worth it and you should try your hardest to get this apprenticeship. Go above and beyond to try and stand out to the employer in order to put yourself out there because that's what they want to see.
