Project Management Integrated Degree Apprentice. 5 year apprenticeship, daily job role in a project management based placement. Attend University one day a week during term time (October - May) Day to day differs from placement to placement however I have a role in Supply Chain this year and deal with contract meetings, Stakeholder engagement and briefings and team catchups. Responsible for ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and leading the ream through changes. Have been given the responsibility for heading up a project and ensuring that the necessary communications are performed for this.
Developed networking skills, built confidence with meeting a wide range of professionals and vastly expanded on my existing IT skills and computer usage. Communication and team-building has developed and I have been able to build upon existing skills within a new role and environment. Daily team talks have provided me with a greater insight to peoples roles and the wider Buisness.
Enjoy my programme. University is okay and have a good work life balance as full time employee. Sometimes can be challenging to do all required outside of uni hours the uni work on particularly heavy placement weeks though receive good support from the business and skills coaches. Great opportunity to apply theory to practice working whilst attending university.
Large organisation and took a while for everything to be set into place as IT issues and security clearance needed for role took longer than expected. Placement wise - fairly well organised and knew second week of orientation where my placement would be the following week for the next year. University - it is a hybrid approach and attend both onsite and online. Some weeks swapped around with short notice and not informed. Apprenticeship was also commenced 1 week prior to advertised date with no warning or instruction.
Receive very good support from employer. They place a high importance on the well being of the apprentices and employees and have a great work life balance policy. Have access to apps and help and support 24/7 and we have frequent well-being check ups. They are an approachable and understanding employer.
Not the best experience as some tutors seem a little out of their depth or do not have experience in the subjects they are teaching. Concerns have been raised and being addressed and employer is supporting in this. The training provider has assured us that this feedback has been taken into account and now the programme structure is changing to reflect this for the better.
The academic side of the apprenticeship is helping put the theory into practice. It helps to understand the background and gives insight into why and what is happening and gives greater understanding and apply knowledge to what I am doing on placement. The university side has been completely overhauled and developed in collaboration with employer and training provider to fit my specific apprenticeship for BAE Systems.
There are many social groups available and a good network of apprentices from all different trades and professions. There is a specific Local Higher Apprenticeship Council and Project Management Council which send out monthly newsletters. Many different things are advertised - on bulletin boards, intranet noticeboard and specific team events. There is always something to do and multiple teams to be involved in.

Fantastic chance to undertake a degree whilst gaining real life experience and immersion into my chosen professional field. Do a paid apprenticeship and have a university degree funded. Work for a multi national, blue chip company that has great employee incentives and offers great support and opportunities for its employees.
BAE offer lots of events that are aimed at schools from primary to secondary, and college programmes and others at people wanting to enter the business . They do Movement to work schemes aimed at everybody. These are great networking and insight opportunities. Do research and go for it! There's nothing stopping you
