I’m a shift manager where I expect to write floor plans, open/close the store, manage all different types of crew, serve loads of different types of customers. As a signature dish I serve Big Macs, fries and a coke. But customers do purchase all of our menu items.
I have learnt patience, time management, to differentiate between friends and colleagues, being able to defuse heated situations with crew and customers. Learnt how to be authoritative and assertive to delegate and communicate productivity through all crew, I’ve learnt how to earn respect. This includes cash control and digital food safety.
I enjoy the programme a lot! It gives me knowledge that I can use in every day life work and casually. I helps me think from an outside perspective and how the business works inside and out. It gives me time to reflect on what I learn physically on the shop floor.
At the start it wasn’t so organized, I had a mentor that never talked to me and because of this I fell so far behind in my apprenticeship. However, recently I’ve got a new mentor and with a lot of time and effort I am all up to date.
Not that much from my business manager. He even often forgets to schedule my apprenticeship time even when I remind him every month in an email and constantly receives emails from the trainers in the programme. However he would take all the credit if I exceeded in my course and got amazing results.
I get a lot of support and help from my training providers, we have zoom calls 4/5 times a month. I can message them anytime I need to and they will always reply as soon as possible.
Definitely, this gives me knowledge that you don’t get taught on the floor and it helps me communicate with my crew and teams. It helps me build bonds. Helps me understand inside and out how the business works financially, stock wise and sales wise. I’ve learnt things I didn’t even know existed.
There is always charity work which everyone can get involved with as McDonald’s has its own charity called the Ronald McDonald house charity which provides families of those children in hospital places to stay close to the hospital, which is such a loving thing to do - be closer to your child when in need.
Yes
I would recommend McDonald’s to a friend because it is such a flexible job that can fit around any lifestyle. It is fast paced and will keep you constantly busy. You meet different people everyday within crew and customers. You will never get bored as you are always on the go.
Although the majority of the time it is a nice place to work, between crew it can get heated as some get stressed. Customers will often get angry if there is a delay with their order.
