My role at site is a deputy hotel manager. In this role, I am the person at site which the team directly report too. I complete compliance work each week at the site and make sure all my team follow health and safety regulations whilst proving a great experience for our guests staying with us.
During my apprenticeship so far, I have developed some skills that I use in my day to-day work. The main skills I use are leadership and communication skills with my team. I have learnt how to communicate with each team and that team members prefer different methods of communication. I have also learnt leadership styles and that team members like to be lead in different styles depending on what is best for them.
I really enjoy learning all the different parts of my programme. I feel that the sections we cover really help me at work and this has helped me to develop a lot in my role on site, especially with this being my very first management role. I also think this has helped me to become a stronger manager for my team.
I think my programme is very well structured. I enjoy the fact that we have dates to go by for each learning component. I like that we know exactly when we have meetings with my learning coach and that we have had dates for our webinars and skills days with plenty of notice, including pre-work so we know what is coming up.
I feel I recieve a fair amount of support from my employee with my apprenticeship. I have had time set aside with my manager every so often to discuss the work I have completed as well as any other bits and pieces I may not be 100% sure on.
I feel like I get lots of support from Lifetime training. I think it is great that I have meetings every 6-8 weeks with my learning coach and get time whether this is for my review catch up or teaching and learning sessions where we can spend time to go over things I do not always understand.
I think my qualification helped me massively with my role. I started my apprenticeship about 8 months after progressing into my first manager role and I think that if I was not learning all these things with My Level 4, I would not be as confident in my role as I am now.
No extra-curriculur things such as social activities or sport activities. We do, however, have something called our voice which is a forum for the team to have their voice on different things the company are doing. I have previously taken on this role prior to my role currently on site.
Yes
I would recommend Whitbread to friends and family because it is a great company to work for. You are made to feel welcome into the team no matter which site you go to and have fantastic benefits to enjoy with them. For example, discount on rooms and food, and also things like studying the apprenticeship.
I think the main tip to give out is to be yourself. You will fit in no matter what you do because we are like one massive family. Everyone has time for each other no matter what and we all work together. Also, if you want to progress and learn more, express this and the team can help you with that.
