At the minute I am based in the training centre completing all of the level 2 aspects of my apprenticeships, the skills I learn in here prepare me for when I go out onto the ships later this year. I am completing exams, practical assessments and knowledge questions as part of my level 2.
Yes I have learnt a lot about basic electrics, this includes both the theory side of things and practical aspects as well. I have completed assessments such as ring mains and lighting circuits which I did not know how to do before starting here. I have also learnt theory such as working out resistance of parallel and series circuits and ohms law.
I really enjoy my programme, it is a great place to work and I am also learning a lot and gaining qualifications. I get along with my colleagues and I am looking forward to progressing to level 3 and hopefully getting a job here at the end of my apprenticeship.
My programme is very well organised and there is a clear structure of what I am going to be doing or have been doing, there is a timetable that we could look at from the start of my apprenticeship that would let me know what modules I would be completing and when.
There is plenty of support on offer from my employer. This ranges from extra help if I am struggling with any of the modules or assessments to other sources of support that aren't directly relevant to my apprenticeship such as the mental health programmes that are available to me and my colleagues.
I am unaware of who my training provider is but I have recieved a good amount of support when I have been preparing for exams or assessments. It has been clearly structured when and where I am taking exams and assessments and how to prepare for them the best way possible.
I think it will do more as I get out onto the ships and actually carrying out work that is contributing to the business. It has already allowed me to be better in my role due to the knowledge I have gained in my time here but this will only improve more with more experience.
Yes there is social events that I have received emails for and there was also a field gun activity that has been offered to for us apprentices to take part in if we are ahead with assessments and keen to get involved in that. I also play football with my work colleagues outside of work.
Yes
Because I think that BAE systems is a great company to work for that provide excellent training and give you opportunities to have a good career and better yourself. They also offer very good benefits such as the shares programme and the pension scheme as well as good salaries and bonuses.
I would advise other people who are applying to BAE systems to learn as much as possible about the company and their specific role that they're applying for so that they can excel in the interviews and also to work hard if the get a job here as you will be rewarded and make a lot of progress and learn a lot of the skills.
