I am currently a first year apprentice, every day I look to use and improve my knowledge and understanding. We learn what the appropriate measures are for each task and how to do it efficiently and safely. Once we have completed the task, we complete job reports to apply our recently learned knowledge.
Since beginning work here at BAE systems, I have massively improved on my existing skills that I had previously learned at college. since then, I have also learned even more skills and that is just on the engineering side of things. I have also massively developed my people skills since starting here.
I do really enjoy my programme and I feel like I learn a lot of relevant knowledge. In addition to this, I am in a positive workplace surrounded by knowledgeable instructors that are very happy in helping my colleagues and I out even if they are not our designated instructors.
At the beginning of the year I believe it was not quite ready for as many apprentices as it took on, this was evident in the fact that people didn't have laptops until a week or two in (me included) despite us needing to complete work on them from the first day. However, since this first week it has been fairly well structured and organised.
I feel supported by the company in every step I take, people are always around to support you if anything is to occur or if it is just day to day issues. Personally, I have not encountered any issues that I would need support for but my peers that have needed that support have gotten it.
I feel that support is always there and available to my colleague and I whenever it is needed. The instructors are very knowledgeable and know when to let us get on with tasks on our whilst also watching over us to ensure we do not make mistakes or put anyone at risk in terms of health and safety
Since starting here at BAE, I feel like I have received the correct training that is helping me in the long term to be able to fit into the role that is required of me. I am developing at a good rate and with work experience coming up soon I feel like I will be better in my role
Extra curricular activities at work consist of a weekly clean up at Southsea beach in order to help the environment. There is also a weekly social at another site in which you can go to relax and have a few drinks. In addition to these, there are socials at scarlett tapp. I personally have not attended any of these.
Yes
I would recommend working here because it is a great company, the training has been great so far and helped me develop massively as not just an engineer but also as a person. There are a lot of options in which department to go into. It is also a very stable company.
I personally would advise them to be enthusiastic and show how much they want to work for the company, I would also advise you don't be afraid to ask lots of questions, by doing this you show a willing to learn attitude and dont look like the person who doesnt want to be there.
