I work in a school library at a through school (5-19). It involves assisting students and staff as well as looking after (and repairing) the books. It also involves setting up events and activities for the students. Also, I have to add books to the stock and organise the catalogue.
I've learnt a lot of new skills involving book repair and computer work as well as how to better accommodate people while dealing with behaviour appropriately.
I really enjoy the programme I'm on including the assignment work as it's really interesting to me.
I think it's well organised in terms of Inspire and my tutor although my host placement is less well organised. There is a set timeline and plan to follow for my work which helps.
Inspire is very supportive as a whole even when there were several issues to deal with at the start of my contract.
I receive a lot of support from my tutor and I know she's always available to contact by email if I need a helping hand.
I think it's definitely helping. At the start, I didn't realise how much goes on behind the scenes within a library which I'm understanding better now even though I'm only a few months in.
There are some to get involved with such as music showcases but nothing I have taken part with yet apart from a few meetings with other librarians.
Yes
They have been quite supportive and provide a lot of different opportunities and courses.
Go for what you want even if it is in a very niche area.
