My role consists of overhauling, replacing and repairing various different marine systems and equipment. I have worked on many different vessels including; Hunts, Type 45, Type 23 and Carriers both in Upkeep and Fleet Time. I am now under a commissioning team to develop into an exit role as a Lift Maintenance Engineer.
Over the span of my apprenticeship, I have learnt various different skills; problem solving, critical reasoning and teamwork. I have increased and learnt these skills through exposure working on different vessels and systems. I believe that these skills are constantly being improved daily and I am always finding new ways to increase my skillset.
My programme is quite informative and I am happy with the qualifications that are present but I believe the delivery and selection of the courses could be improved. I.e. academic units to be more relevant to my role and more efficient delivery timings. Otherwise, I am quite content with the programme.
As per my previous comments I believe that the delivery and selection of the courses could be improved. Also, the organisation could be improved regarding the main academic units; as communication is present but not consistent. I am happy with the programme overall, but I believe these points stated could be improved.
I believe that there is adequate support set in place by my employer and that there are various different policies and guidance available to refer to. My organisation highlights diversity and inclusion as one of the many key points to highlight in the workplace, I think this is important to remember.
I think that the support I receive from my employer is quite adequate, I am hoping that any further qualifications and training needed can be supported through BAE Systems and my line manager.
I feel that the Level 3 I am currently undergoing helps me have a better understanding of the mechanical principles and theory behind the engineering tasks that I perform each day. By performing the academic units, it helps me have a better foundation to develop my engineering skills and understanding within the workplace.
There are various different extra curricular activities available for apprentices, the Maritime Sector Local Council is in place to provide support and many different events and organisations are planned for apprentices to be involved in. These can either be external or on-site locations or communal gatherings.
Yes
BAE is a very good place to work. There are many great benefits and perks that create a good environment. The majority of employees are very nice to work with. Can be a good employer to have career progression within BAE itself and employee support can be good with further development.
I would suggest that you do your research before applying to BAE Systems and ensure the career path is the correct one for your needs and outweigh the pros and cons compared to different employers, but I think that apprenticeships are quite a good way to start your career journey.
