Each day is different. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, we are in the workshop practicing our skills, trying to enhance them as much as we can. On Thursday and Friday we are in the classroom trying to learn all the theory behind our trade, ensuring we have the best knowledge.
Yes, I have learned how to properly weld. I have also learned a lot about the theory side of welding, like different properties of materials and what is needed to weld the materials together.
I enjoy the programme very much as welding was something I had always wanted to do so it is a great experience to turn something that I love into work, I have enjoyed getting to know new people and further extending my knowledge of welding and the whole engineering world.
The programme has been structured very well from day one.
We have received great support from the employer. Babcock has given us the necessary personal protective equipment and the necessary initial training to begin the apprenticeship. They are always checking in on us and how the programme is progressing and if there is anything that they can help with.
We have great support from our training advisor whilst we are working towards our qualifications. They are constantly checking that all is progressing in the right direction and at the correct pace and if it is not, they ask if they can do anything to help it get back onto the correct path.
I feel that it helps greatly as it is helping us progress and learn quickly and efficiently to perform at the best standard of work possible for the company. I feel like the training has been helping me perform as good as possible in the role.
To my knowledge, there are a few activities that we can get involved in, but at this time in my apprenticeship I am yet to find or get involved in any of the activities. In the future, I hope to be involved in as much as possible.
Yes
I believe that Babcock is and can be one of the best companies in the world at the moment and I believe that the company is only going in a good direction and will have lots of work for many years to come. I believe that the values of the company reflect a great way.
I would say don’t give up if you are rejected a few times as I had applied for them for many years prior to actually receiving the apprenticeship. If you can get into a college course for the trade that you want to do, do it as the expense of that will further your chances of receiving an apprenticeship.
