My role includes virtual testing on CAE and/or CAD, data analysis and processing, physical (objective) testing and subjective assessments. I work with my team to measure test subjects and ensure they are meeting targets in time for their deadline. I complete a lot of work on my laptop but also have the opportunity to complete testing on the proving ground or off site.
Since working with my team, I have learnt how to measure virtual assessments using CAE and CAD on a wide range of programmes, along with learning how to set up data loggers and instrumentation to record data from physical assessments. JLR also provide first aid training, fire marshalling and other health and safety courses which are useful for day-to-day life.
I have really enjoyed my programme so far. Starting from the first 2 years at college, learning the theory behind the engineering and then applying it in practical lessons.
I feel the structure of my programme works well and allows everyone to understand the theory before applying it in their job roles. The college was less organised due to the issues it faced with Covid, however it overcame these well in my opinion and was able to deliver the required theory based and practical work.
I have a one to one session with my manager every 2 weeks allowing me to ask for support or raise any concerns. I also have a 3 month meeting with someone who works with both the college and JLR to go through a quarterly review and I am able to raise any concerns here as well. On the whole I think it is good.

I feel the qualification gives you the basics to understand how the engineering works before you get into your role. I think it helps by covering everything from how different engines work to how the sat-nav interacts with the system in the vehicle.
There are social activities you can join, including sports and quiz nights. Equally if you were interested in something in particular you can form your own group with other apprentices or employees with the help of JLR. They also offer other courses during work such as fire marshals and first aid training.

I believe Jaguar Land Rover is a good place to work. I feel safe and happy when working at my site, everyone is very friendly and always happy to help. There are opportunities to improve and move around the business if you want - in terms of placements in different departments.
I would say to research the company and different departments to ensure you get some kind of idea about what you are interested in. If they have any concerns or questions at any time, the JLR early careers team are always happy to answer questions and have a chat or meeting.
