My typical day-to-day role includes working with engineering drawings and 3D modelling software in which I create parts and assemblies, I then use those creations to create an engineering drawing to be used by a manufacturer. I also work with parts lists and other standard form of documentation.
So far, I have learned something new every single day. This includes the ability to interpret and understand technical drawings and extract information from them as well as my knowledge and skills needed for the use of the software package Inventor. I have also learned strong team-working skills where I have worked with colleagues for small project tasks as well as STEM related subjects.
So far, I absolutely love my apprenticeship as it is keeping me interested in the subjects that I am learning. I am also surrounded by many positive colleagues who are always happy to help me if I need anything. I am definitely happy to be a part of Cavendish Nuclear and do not intend to change my mind any time soon.
My programme is very well organised as Cavendish have had many previous apprentices come and go over the years. Whenever there is any sort of issue, it is very easy to have that issue solved. The only issue is the college side of things where Loughborough College are not the most ideal when it comes to the completion of admin tasks and set up.
I do not think that any employer could possibly be more supportive towards their apprentices than Cavendish, I have had great experiences asking for support from my line manager and the issue is taken seriously and is resolved very soon. If I am ever in need of extra time to work on my assignments or if I am struggling, my employer is always happy to offer me extra college time or to spend some time with me to assist me.
I attend college every Monday in which I have 4 lessons based on different units for the year. The college has some good teachers who put in a large amount of effort for their lessons in order to deliver the knowledge in the best way possible. I have had some issues with how one of the lessons has been going and the college have been putting in a strong effort to resolve the issue.
My training provider provides me with knowledge and skills that I use on a day-to-day basis. Such as understanding first and third angle projection. I learned about this in college and I work with it almost every week during my working hours. Overall, the content that I learn from my training provider is very much in line with what I do in my workplace.
There are many different extra activities at work, a recent one that has come up is a 5 a-side football tournament where anyone is welcome to play from either gender with mixed teams being allowed. There are also regular events such as curry nights where teams will get together outside of work for a social event in order to strengthen the team.

Cavendish Nuclear is a company that puts a lot of effort into its apprentices, they provide a great learning environment and have many positive people to work with. The training is well thought out and provides a strong fundamental understanding as well as providing you with a complete structure as to what your options are in the future. For example, myself starting at level 3, I am able to continue to a higher level of qualification and still be supported by my employer.
My tips would be to show your best self, if you get into Cavendish Nuclear, make sure that you take every opportunity that comes your way as that way, you will learn the most and get the most out of your apprenticeship. Cavendish provides an amazing opportunity, so make sure that you make the most of it.
