My role at the moment is in the Structural drawing office where I am currently modelling different Pylon towers. My job in this team also consists of ordering material and bolts in order to create the tower types needed.
Yes, I have developed many different skills such as learning how to use Tekla and Microstation. Also I have learnt the basics of Excel and now can create many functions. Before joining my apprenticeship I didn't have much computer knowledge however I can now carry out many functions.
At the beginning of the programme in September 2022 I was really busy with work therefore I really enjoyed it. I am still enjoying it however slightly less from when I started as workload has died down.
I would say the apprenticeship structure for the programme could be improved. The onboarding process before I entered the office was very vague and not to helpful. To benefit this I would make it mandatory that there is an induction or a casual formatted meeting with your team before joining.
Since starting I have received a lot of support and all my questions have been answered when asked.
I receive minimal support if any from University at the moment, my teacher for CAD just allows us to do nothing if wanted and hasn't actually gave us a lecture yet after being 2 months into the module.
The qualification I will receive will definitely help me in my role and allows me to progress if wanted.
Yes, many activities are shared with the office that I can join any time.
Yes
I'd recommend Balfour Beatty as they are very inclusive and respectful to others. They also are very helpful and many different people varying in experience that can always help if needed.
Ask many questions before and after getting the job if successful. Asking questions will allow you to advance your knowledge.
