Essentially, I work as a case handler handling a caseload of 60+ cases in the probate department. I am responsible for handling the estate administrative of a case from start to finish as well as keeping in regular contact with all of my clients in all files.
As I am constantly drafting inheritance tax forms when applying for the Grant of Probate, I feel like my legal drafting skills have improved massively. I also think my communication skills have improved because I am always speaking to clients and third parties.
I enjoy the programme. I feel like I have improved massively as a person and feel more confident speaking to others. I enjoy learning about the different aspects of the estate administration as well as helping others in need.
My programme is very well structured. I started off in the legal assistant team, assisting existing case handlers with their administrative work. When I became more confident, I began building my own caseload. With my college work, I learned about the area of law I work in.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, I was given a day a week so that I could complete my college work. If I was ever struggling, I knew I could approach my manager and they would be there to help me if I needed it.
My training provider was very understanding and helpful. If I ever needed advice or help in a certain area, they were always there to help me. They also were very quick to respond and I was even given a direct phone number for my coach.
My qualification helped my perform better in my role because it taught me a lot more about the different inheritance tax forms that I use on a daily basis and when I should be using which. I found this to be very helpful in speeding up case durations.
Unfortunately, there are no any extra curricular activities at my work place. We sometimes get a Christmas event.
Yes
I think it is a really good start in the legal world. It has built my confidence and independence, whilst gaining legal knowledge that will help me in my future career as a solicitor. People at the Co Op are also really supportive and friendly.
Be truthful and try and gain legal work experience beforehand, that way, when you come to coming in the firm, it would not be such a shock to you as you will be more used to working alongside legal professionals. I would also suggest being very confident.
