  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been introduced to different sectors in the business and am shown by different engineers how and why they do their jobs. I am shown different processes and sometimes able to do hands-on work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My confidence has definitely improved, as well as my communication and teamwork. I have become a lot more independent too when I have to solve problems and find the correct people to go to.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme allows me to apply my theoretical knowledge to the real-world which is something I find really interesting. It has opened my eyes to how important engineering is globally, to be able to aid with this fills me with joy.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As my intake are one of the first, the structure could have been better, but a lot of feedback has been given to the organisers of the apprenticeship in order for them to be able to improve and smooth out the process.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support I need and feel comfortable to ask for help when required.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive enough support from my training provider, however some modules I seem to understand better than others. This depends purely on the lecturer, if I do struggle, there is always someone I can go to.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel my qualification so far is helping to understand the basics of engineering, and sometimes I recognise these things in the workplace. I find this really interesting as I get to see how things work in a practical environment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The apprentices sometimes set up social events for us all to get together which is a good opportunity to meet new people and make new friends who share the same interests as you.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a huge business which provides great support and provides a great range of opportunities suitable for everyone.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Do your research into all roles available, pick one you think you will enjoy, there will always be support if you would like to move roles.
