I handle pre-litigated and litigated cases. My work involves acting on behalf of the Defendant, which tends to be a commercial client, in defending fraudulent insurance claims brought about for the purpose of financial gain. I draft reports and legal documents as I handle the case from intimation to trial.
Yes. I have learned about the court systems, how to draft legal documents, how to research and apply case law and how to use/adhere to the CPR. I have completed formative assignments and exams which have improved my written communication and I have developed my existing knowledge in insurance.
I enjoy the programme as it is very varied in its content. The tutors are always very helpful and friendly and provide varied tasks to allow for different learning preferences. CILEX have been very supportive in the time that I have been on the programme and have taken my needs into account.
The course is well structured. We have a delivery plan which sets out the terms work, deadlines, webinars and tasks. This allows me to fit the programme in with my day-to-day role and home life. The tutors are in regular contact and provide regular, detailed feedback. They are always available.
My immediate line manager is very supportive of my attendance on the programme. My target has been amended to reflect my learning time and she has an active interest in my upcoming deadlines and the areas of law I am studying. The company have a dedicated co-ordinator who takes my needs into account.
CILEX provide constant support in terms of the training content and personal wellbeing. They worked with me to provide numerous options when I took a break in learning to take maternity leave and they did the same again when I returned to learning. They are very accommodating and flexible in their working.
The training has given me a deeper understanding of the knowledge needed for my role. Whilst I have always referred to case laws, the training has taught me how to do so effectively and how to process case law. I also have a more sound understanding of the CPR and how to apply this.
Yes, we have social engagement groups which cover a variety of aspects such as charity work, employee engagement, personal wellbeing, mental health support and environmental changes. Employees are encouraged to participate in events and propose new events throughout the year. The only down side to this is the role does not always allow the time to participate.
Yes
The company has a really great reputation with clients, it is professional and wins multiple awards for its work. The team I work in are very friendly, diverse and inclusive. We have members with different cultural and career backgrounds so there is always something new to learn from each other.
I would tell them to be their true self and not what they think a law firm may be hoping to see in someone. I would advise them to be prepared to work hard and be accountable for their actions in order to progress. The job is stressful at times, but no two days are the same.
