  • Performing software changes and creating and reviewing documentation related to the project.

  • I have greatly expanded my knowledge and understanding of software development as well as other parts of the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • We are only in the placement for a few months, the settling in period limits the amount that we can complete within that time. However, once we are established in the placement, the work we are given helps expand our knowledge and allows us to enjoy the placement.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is usually one person within each placement that we can go to for help which allows us to get to grips with the placement much faster. Each placement has its own way of coordinating which can take time to get used to but the structure is definitely beneficial.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is available if I need help with anything throughout my apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have weekly sessions to help us learn the content and the lecturers are available if we need help with any assignments or do not understand anything that we are being taught.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is helping me to get a better understanding of the role of technology within businesses and further into my degree apprenticeship I will be focussing on my specialism of software engineering which will give more tailored insights into my area.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a variety of extra-curricular activities offered to employees and some are just for apprentices which helps with networking and sharing experiences. there is also a council and monthly meetings which allow us to share any opinions that we have of the current scheme.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Many have been working in the business for 5+ years so have a wealth of experience that they are willing to share with any new joiners and there are several events which allow you to network with other employees within the business and beyond.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Learn about the company before joining as some basic knowledge of the area you are applying to will give you a boost when you are actually in a team as you will understand how your role fits into the project and the business as a whole.
