Working within Treasury function of UBS and ensuring all business and operational risks are monitored and mitigated to ensure smooth running of the business.
I am learning various financial products which is not something I have any experience with as well as developing a greater understanding of how my own skills can be useful within the banking sector.
So far I have found it really engaging. It has gone very quickly, as it has already been over 5 months and I would say that I feel as if I have had an impact within my team. The roles I have performed to date have been useful to both internal and external stakeholders of the bank.
It has been structured really well in certain areas, whilst allowing for a certain amount of flexibility in others.
This, for me, has probably been the best part of the apprenticeship as a whole. I have various ports of call within my team and the department and any questions I have are dealt with. I regularly sit next to my line manager, which allows me to ask questions and tackle complex problems together.
I have had lots of support so far, whether that be from tutors on the course or my talent coach whom I have regular meetings with.
The AAT qualification was very useful to get a broad understanding of different areas of accounting whilst completing different placements. For example, the content covered in different exams has helped me to understand financial statements better and think about what the financial statements mean.
Yes, there are often socials to take part in as an apprentice as well as team drinks and various charity events. We have regular networking sessions to help us meet new people and expand our horizons.
Yes
I think the best thing about UBS is the amount of support they offer. I cannot stress enough how friendly of a work environment it has been so far and for a new starter into the working world I think it is an ideal employer.
Research the area you are applying to and make sure it is 100% what you want to do. Be prepared to manage your time well and demonstrate this as a skill in the interview process.
