Operating the works and ensuring clean water goes out the door - also inspect site to maintain site standards. Chemical testing - testing the water to check our on site monitors are reading correctly and that our equipment is up to date. Calibrating equipment on site to make sure they are up to date.
I have learnt how to work as a strong team and how to optimise my strengths in a team scenario. I have also completed my practical ladder safety and confined spaces using breathing apparatus courses. I have also now completed my manual handling training too.
So far, I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship as it is a very practical job and enables me to create a strong foundation for my future career. We also spend time away at the academy which is a week away of theory learning so I know why we do the things we do on site.
It is a very structured programme as we have set dates we are at work, at the academy etc. There are also extra learning days put on at the academy if we wanted to expand our knowledge on things we might not usually do.
I receive a lot of support from my manager and my trainers. We often have meetings to discuss how I am getting on with the course and what they can do to help me or push my abilities.
Our training provider helps us by pushing us to our best ability and by providing the right amount of support for when we are struggling. They are always open to emails and send support when needed.
I feel as though I am being pushed to show my potential. I have recently been given more responsibility on site which I enjoy as it means more people rely on me and see me more as part of the team and that they can count on me.
There are lots of social activities put in place for the apprentices to take part in which enables us to meet people from other departments and get an insight into what they do on a daily basis. There are no sports teams.
Yes
I feel as though this is a very good job role which gives you the learning you will not learn somewhere else. I also enjoy the people I work with as they are all welcoming and have supported me very much.
Just be yourself and be keen and interested in your job role. They are more inclined to help you and employ you if you are interested in the job - look things up about the job role before your interview too.
