My day to day role consists of carrying out the employee lifecycle such as onboarding, offboarding, family leave such as shared parental, adoption, paternity and maternity. It also consists of a shared inbox which employees come into with generalist queries. I note take for employee relation cases such as grievances, investigations and redundancy.
I have learned many new skills. This includes the ability to confidently speak to hiring managers and feel strongly about being able to give advice where necessary, I am confident in answering generalist queries and feel much more skilled on HRIS systems. Finally, i now feel confident advising on recent employment law updates which is crucial to my role.
I enjoyed my apprenticeship programme to a certain degree, and the virtual learning made it much easier for me to do it in my own time. I struggled with the amount of content alongside the deadlines with the assessments. Compared to other apprenticeship providers, i felt this was a lot.
I felt the programme was well structured at times. It had weekly learning that was distributed which allowed me to go through it at my own pace, however each assignment was poorly structured, each varying in length. I found it was too much work as we had to complete work on the bud platform whilst completing assignments.
I received a lot of support from my employer with a consistent study day each week. Some weeks when i felt over whelmed with assignments due, i would request to work at home to mitigate the noise and get my head down. Overall i felt really supported by Channel 4.
I felt supported by my training provider, especially by my mentor. He would regularly check up on me and have calls with myself and my line manager. He would set objectives and deadlines which needed to be prioritised. I did however not feel supported by the apprenticeship platform, it was unaccessible and hard to use.
I personally do not feel my apprenticeship contributes much to my everyday role. It is much different learning the content to actually carrying this out in real life as it is much more theory based rather than reactive evidence. I am pleased I have the qualification, however I do not feel it contributes much.
Yes - we have employee resource groups and I am part of the 4 women one which is a women only network about women supporting women. They recently introduced a fertility and period policy which makes me proud to work for Channel 4. They have plenty of extra activities which is great!
Yes
I would recommend Channel 4 as a great place for an apprentice to start as it has great culture and values. I would recommend Arch apprenticeships, however I do feel they need to change/update their platform as I feel it is difficult to use. Also to reduce the content as it is too much.
Make sure you really like Channel 4 programmes and learn a little bit about the remit and culture. It is a bubbly place to work and everyone is driven to make it a great place. As an apprentice, you are well looked after and are made to feel welcomed instantly.
