I am on a 3 year grad scheme with RSA Insurance. I am in my 2nd year rotation assisting the IFRS17 project as a Statutory and Group Regulatory Reporting Accountant.
I have learnt several skills. Transferrable skills that have prepared me for a successful career in finance. Skills I know that have drastically altered and improved the perception of the work I do.
This programme has improved many of my skills that I lacked or needed work on. Graduating from uni with no professional workplace skills, I have seen a drastic improvement in how I tackle my day to day role. The skills you pick up from each role over the 3 years are skills I believe take years to develop and grow. But the instant exposure to them in such a short period of time has enabled me to become a well rounded individual, able to tackle the general high expectations of working effectively in a finance environment/team. I believe this programme is a great mix of engaging work, positive work environment and fun.
The programme is designed incredibly well. We are not simply working for a company. Instead I feel the company (almost like a family) actively engages with the grads such as myself to celebrate achievements as well as give feedback to help us become the best version of ourselves. This is an incredible opportunity for anyone to be involved in this programme who is open to continual improvement and learning.
I receive quite a lot of support from my employer. There are many different support structures available at RSA. This is financially and mentally improving my career. The RSA family have a genuine interest in our wellbeing and it really feels that I am not just some number to HR. Which is amazing!
Quite a bit. Our training provider (Babbington) seem to be available at all times for queries regarding the content of our qualification. Moreover, our line managers at RSA constantly check up on us after each exam outcome. Also, the programme lead holds monthly meetings so we can celebrate achievements as well as discuss any updates.
There is is a lot of crossover between the ACCA qualification and the work we do. I feel very well supported to ensure the work compliments my studies and vice versa. My progress is constantly viewed and feedback is provided on a regular basis to ensure I improve in my day to day role.
Quite a few, yes. We have a lunch time running team, sports days and many professional networking events to meet the board team directors and CEO of the company. These events are great as we see quite a lot of communication between the board and staff as well as many open Q and A sessions between staff and the CFO and CEO.
Yes
I do not feel like I am working for a company. I do not feel like a number to HR. RSA feels like a family. I feel a continual and gradual upwards trajectory in my performance and skills. I have learnt so much in such a short period of time and not just soft skills, but technical skills too. I have acquired several unique transferable skills to be successful in my career. Everyone has a positive interest in your success at RSA. I feel like line managers, HR, directors and the CEO and CFO themselves show a genuine interest in hearing our ideas. This is a safe environment for me to be open in.
Understand what the company stands for. Be yourself and ensure RSA is the right fit for you in your career path. Make sure your interests align and that you are open to growing and taking on feedback. The learning curve is steep but the support is vastly available for you to succeed.
