I have been learning about the role and what is involved in the line of work. My week is split between working on site and attending college to complete my NC Mechanical Engineering qualification. While on site I have been accompanying experienced members of staff who have been showing me the variation in tasks I can be expected to be involved in during my employment.
I have learned a number of new skills and developed some already existing skills. I have gained a better knowledge of all the workplace health and safety legislations which should be considered. I have gained some experience in the assembly and maintenance processes, from working on pressure systems to servicing valves and motors.
I am really enjoying my programme, and feel that I am well supported by my line manager, lecturers and colleagues. I am constantly learning and developing my skill set as well as sharing my knowledge to help support others within the course. Overall, I am very satisfied with the variation in the programme.
The organisation and structure of the programme is very well laid out and easy to follow and understand. We are informed of important details with plenty notice and the management are always approachable when I am needing help or support with anything. The balance between college and on site learning is excellent.
My employer is always on hand to provide help and support whenever I have a query. They always keep us informed of company news and any offers or staff benefits which could be of interest. They frequently plan review meetings which allow us to discuss progress and areas that require any attention.
The college always provide an excellent level of support when helping me work towards my qualifications. The lecturers always mark and review work which helps to identify the standard of content to complete, paperwork and practical activities. If I had any issue with my work load, I feel that the lecturers would be able to help me formulate a plan to rectify this.
While completing the qualification, I feel as though it gives me the confidence to perform the activities required once I have moved on site. The training provider has a vast range of varied facilities and systems. This offers me a wide range of activities which help to build my experiences and skill set.
There are a number of activities that are open to staff joining in with. There are various charity events organised by the employer such as running events and football tournaments. The company also hold awards events which employees have the chance to attend. These events highlight the achievements of the organisation and individuals within it.
Yes
I feel Babcock is an excellent company to work for. Staff are provided with an excellent amount of support and if you are performing to a high standard then the opportunity for promotion/progression is there. The company also strive to make sure health and safety is its number 1 priority.
I would advise others to apply to work at Babcock if the opportunity presented itself. The training and support provided are one of the main draws of working here. If you can display the correct attributes then the company would help and support you to climb the ladder and go for a promotion.
