CAD Engineer Review

I am a CAD engineer, based within the home team AVA body. No day is the same, but generally I am involved with project planning and feasibility meetings. We have a weekly team meeting. I also get involved with the Apprentice Forum to help progress the Apprenticeship. I also help out with CAD work. Sometimes I have the opportunity to go on Supplier Visits or I get to visit different departments within JLR, for example. the Materials Lab.

I am working towards my FDeg in Engineering L4. I have completed a number of training courses, such as, creativity and innovation, and personal professional development. I also completed the CATIA V5 training course and Class 2 Driving Test to enable me to drive company cars.

I sometimes find it challenging as I have never worked within a corporate environment before, however, I do find all co-workers friendly and helpful. I have also found that if I am curious about something or I want to experience or see something my manager tries his hardest to make it happen.

I feel appreciated and more valued as time goes on. When we first arrived the Apprenticeship framework wasn't very established, however, it is constantly improving. Externally everyone thinks being on the Apprenticeship is incredible since it was such tough competition to get onto it. Departments have been good at ensuring that I am involved within the team and get given plenty of tasks and personal projects to make be feel valued.

I receive the support I require, however College can be challenging sometimes with insufficient support.

There are lots of opportunities. The only opportunities lacking are Sporting Teams. I am local so I already have dance teams and friends and lots to be doing when not working.

Make sure that you choose your Job Role wisely in the first week. To remember that your manager has a job to fulfil too so don't await on them to give you task to do, take it on your own back and find opportunities for yourself at the same time.
