I help engineers design highways schemes and manage projects. This includes creating engineering drawings, modelling schemes using digital software and designing things according to legal standards. I also manage budgets, project forecasts and timesheets for members of my company and sub contractors.
I have learnt a lot of digital skills. This includes MS excel, Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley Openroads etc. I have gained good people skills through my interactions as assistant project manager and I have learnt budgeting and time management skills.
I really enjoy it. I work with some great people and I am supported really well in all that I do. I am always given new opportunities for learning.
Very well. I always have upcoming tasks and there are multiple people in my team who are aware of my development needs and will help me to achieve those.
They are very good at checking up on me and making sure my work and university is going well. I am given time to study and complete assignments and I have people to talk to if I feel overwhelmed.
I go to university in block release and so I have focused weeks where I am without work to focus on my qualifications. I am given study leave too.
At the moment I struggle to completely see the correlation between my university work and the work I do in the office. The only overlap is perhaps to business management aspect which has helped me have better understanding of the work that I do in some areas.
I am part of the apprentice network and the Arup Leeds running group. My team is very social and we often have days/evenings out.
Yes
Great company to work for, interesting projects to work on, a great team of people, a very friendly environment.
They want your personality to shine through in your interview and so ensure you would be a good fit for the team. They pride themselves on excellence so consider that.
