As an apprentice BI developer at Sage, I am part of the marketing strategy team responsible for acquiring, modelling, and analysing marketing data. Sage is a British multinational enterprise software company and a global market leader in providing small and medium businesses with technology to manage finances, operations, and people. With over 6.1 million customers worldwide, Sage offers an ever-growing variety of products, including Sage Business Cloud Accounting, Sage Business Cloud Payroll, and SageHR. At Sage, we work towards our purpose of "knocking down barriers so everyone can thrive," which includes our customers, colleagues, society, and shareholders. In my role as an apprentice BI developer, I collaborate with stakeholders, including my manager, director, function lead, and external clients, to identify the facts and dimensions of the business process to be measured. I design, build, and deploy Business Intelligence solutions, identifying data sources and collaborating with other teams to ingest them into the data warehouse. I extract, load, and transform data from structured and unstructured sources to meet business requirements, write high-quality performant code, and develop and update technical documentation.
Prior to starting this apprenciship I had no knowledge or experience in the field. I have and am acquiring the nessassary skills needed. These include modelling, and analysing marketing data, collaborating with stakeholders, identify the facts and dimensions of the business process to be measured, design, build, and deploy Business Intelligence solutions, identifying data sources and collaborating with other teams to ingest them into the data warehouse. I extract, load, and transform data from structured and unstructured sources to meet business requirements, write high-quality performant code, and develop and update technical documentation.
I have found the experience to be incredibly enjoyable and valuable, and I would enthusiastically recommend it to others. The positive impact of this experience has been significant, and I believe that others could also benefit greatly from participating in it. Overall, I am very grateful for this opportunity and the many benefits it has provided me.
The programme from the provider is well structured and broken down into relevant modules. This is enough for you to gain a base knowledge but you will need to combine this with your employer and sole researched , to ensure all bases are covered.
The programme provided is thoughtfully designed with relevant modules that cover the fundamentals, providing a solid foundation of knowledge. While this is a great starting point, it is important to complement it with additional research and practical experience gained from your employer. Doing so will help ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter and can apply it effectively in real-world situations. By taking a proactive approach to learning and combining different sources of knowledge, you can maximise your learning outcomes and achieve greater success in your field.
I would say that the level of support I receive from my training provider varies depending on the program and the provider itself. Some providers offer a high level of support, including access to dedicated tutors, study materials, and regular feedback on progress. Other providers may offer less support, relying more on self-directed learning and independent study. Regardless of the level of support, it is important to be proactive in seeking out help when needed and utilising all available resources to ensure success in achieving the desired qualifications. Ultimately, the amount of support received can have a significant impact on the learning outcomes, and it is important to choose a provider that offers the level of support that meets your individual needs and goals.
I would say that my qualification, obtained through my training provider, has been instrumental in helping me perform better in my role. The knowledge and skills I acquired through the program have enabled me to take on new challenges and responsibilities with greater confidence and competence. Additionally, the qualification has provided me with a recognised credential that has enhanced my credibility and opened up new career opportunities. However, it is important to note that while the qualification provides a solid foundation, it is up to the individual to continually develop their skills and knowledge to stay current in their field. Therefore, ongoing learning and professional development are critical to maintaining peak performance in any role.
I would say that my workplace offers a variety of extra-curricular activities beyond the typical job responsibilities. These include social activities, such as team building events, holiday parties, and happy hours. Additionally, there are opportunities to participate in sports teams, such as softball or volleyball, which can help build camaraderie and promote physical fitness. The company also encourages employees to engage in volunteer activities, both individually and as a group, which can provide a sense of purpose and contribute to the community. Finally, there are professional networking events and workshops that help employees build their skills and connect with others in their industry. Overall, these extra-curricular activities contribute to a positive workplace culture and help foster a sense of community among colleagues.
