At Syngenta, my role is to perform maintenance tasks on plant equipment and complete different tests to ensure that everything is how it should be. My job role may also encounter the occasional breakdown which me, as an engineer, will have to analyse, problem solve and take action to fix the issue.
When I started my apprenticeship, I had a very basic knowledge of electrics but since the beginning, I have definitely learned so much more about what it means to be an engineer and the technicalities of certain jobs. My physical work aspects have developed as I have gained an understanding of multiple pieces of equipment that I am tasked with. My social skills have also developed since starting my apprenticeship as my job requires me to constantly feed back to other, ask questions and reflect.
I would say so far, I have really enjoyed my time at Syngenta. Its a great place to work, very welcoming members of the team, the perks that come along with working here are great, pay is good and most importantly, the apprenticeship courses that are offered are top level. Training providers do all the can to ensure that your getting the correct information that is needed to be successful and everybody at the Huddersfield site offers the information and experience that they posses.
In regards to college, very well. The level 2 and the level 3 course which are completed in the first year are very well laid out by the college. Step by step guides are given to both courses and all assignments that we are presented with have very clear and specific times that they must be completed by. When coming onto site, all apprentices already knew what plans were and after a few hours, were settled into their starting plants and ready to work.
Whenever I have any issues or questions, there is always somebody to turn to and ask. Everybody on site welcomes questions and ensures that they are answered to the fullest. Monthly reviews are put in place with both employer and assessor to ensure that all apprentices are happy with what they are doing and do not have any questions or worries.
All tutors at college work very hard to make sure we know what we are doing. Lessons are given out explaining, in detail, what each assignment is about before we start any work. Regular questions are asked by tutors to make sure we are keeping up and understand what we are doing. Qualifications are laid out for us so we fully understand what we are working towards and help is always available.
Not all information is always relevant throughout college but a lot of good information and advice is given out whilst attending the college. We sometimes work with tools which can prepare us for the physical side of our job and lots of great information during the assignments is useful to me.
From what I have heard, there is minimal extra-curricular activities to get on with after work. A new yoga class has just started up and all apprentices are being taken on a week long residential. Apart from this, to my knowledge, there is no further activities to take part in
Yes
From personal experience, I believe Syngenta is a great place to work. When I was starting I was made to feel welcome and a part of the team. Starting college was made easy for me and all the tutors were very welcoming and friendly. The course was very well laid out and the information given was useful. On site, everybody makes you feel part of the team and are very helpful towards new starters. The work is very interesting and all the benefits that come along with working here are great. Just an all round great place to work.
My biggest piece of advice to new starters would be to really apply yourself. I have seen first hand where a job at Syngenta can take you and that is definitely a place you want to be. Really sit down and concentrate and it will take you wherever you want to be.
