Day-to-day work varies, it is often part administrative and part deals based. It can range from preparing engagement admin, to drawing up diagrams, to preparing tax comments and even assisting in the preparation of the tax computations and returns. No two days are ever the same at Ernst and Young.
I have developed a lot of skills. The professional qualification training is amazing but there is also lots of internal training, focused both of tax and on general personal and career development. Sector specific skills are built up throughout your training agreement, and long after as well.
I am greatly enjoying my study programme, like any studying it has its ups and downs but it is a great alternative to going to university or working full time as you get the best of both worlds with this experience. Building your knowledge whilst being paid is an amazing experience.
My programme is very well structured, all new joiners are given a buddy, a counsellor and an apprenticeship coach who are all more than happy to assist with any questions you might have throughout your time.
I receive a lot of support from my employer. I have a buddy, a counsellor and an apprenticeship coach, not to mention all of my other colleagues who are all very happy to help with any queries, both work and study related. EY ensures that all new joiners know exactly who to contact.
My training provider provides a good level of support for professional exams. There is a mixture of in person learning and self study as you go through all of your exams. With a greater emphasis on self study as you get further towards the end. But there is lots of online support too.
My qualification most definitely helps me in my day to day activities. The tax specific exams build a great level of basic knowledge which can then be applied to work situations and further understanding developed. As exams become more detailed, the exams can become much more relevant to the work environment.
There are lots of extra curricular events at EY, much too many to name. But some of the most talked about are the Women s network, the large variety of sports teams, the religion networks and the disability networks. There really is something for everybody, and often more than you could imagine.

It has been a great place to begin my career and develop as an individual. EY has provided me with great support and advise in order to progress through all of my exams and develop my tax specific skills. As an alternative for university, it has been an absolutely flawless choice.
Be yourself, everyone at EY is an individual as well as part of the company. Being different will never be a negative thing, or a disadvantage it is what makes the company atmosphere so amazing. In addition, be willing to accept that you do not know everything, no new joiner ever will and this is not a problem.
