My role consists of communicating with clients and conducting client meetings to gain an insight into the Transfer Pricing operations of the business. Based off the information collected, I assist the team working on the project to create a local file which will be filed to the relevant tax authorities.
My skills in general apps like Word and Excel were not the best, however since my apprenticeship I have developed strong skills using Microsoft Word and Excel. Another skill I have developed is my skill to present in front of people, whether this is at college, training or in work meetings.
I think the programme is great not just because of the career opportunities and qualifications, but the people I work with have made it an amazing experience. They have really helped me settle in and have so far made the experience of working in a big 4 accounting firm feel great.
The programme has allowed me to attend training in corporate tax and transfer pricing which has allowed me to really get to grips with my day to day job and develop a great understanding. As well as this, when it comes to exam season you can take paid study leave which you can use to help revise for exams and make sure you pass.
20% of my time in the job is off the job training, where we have internal courses to help with work. As well as this, you are assigned a counsellor and buddy when you join who support you throughout your entire time on the programme, and they are people you can go to if you ever have any questions or need support.
The training provider has so far been of immense help to me. Outside of college hours, I am still able to contact tutors regarding questions and queries about exams and they always give a response even outside of college hours. This has been something which has been useful to me and helped me when I did not understand a technical topic in class.
My qualification is linked directly to my role. Studying to become a chartered accountant while performing the day to day jobs that an accountant provides. Therefore the two have gone really well hand-in-hand. Some of the technical terms I learn from my training provider has been useful to me in big meetings where they have used the same technical terms.
There are a whole host of activities to get involved in. There is a football team as well as a cricket team. As well as this there are professional networking events with trainee accountants from other firms where you can meet up and discuss your experiences and also develop lifelong friendships and industry connections.
Yes
My experience has been amazing and I would want people to have the same journey that I have had. The work life balance has been great and I have developed really strong connections with colleagues. As well as this the role has also sparked my interest further into the world of tax and accounting. Which has reassured me that this has been one of the best decisions I have made.
My advice to any future candidates would be that if you are looking for an opportunity to really develop a vast understanding of the accounting world and have a genuine passion to always learn more then I would highly recommend applying for EY. EY has really pushed me to be a better version of myself and this has really reflected in my personal life.
