Currently I attend college at Appris Charity Limited 5 days a week. Studying multiple different subjects such as CAD, Mechanical Principles and Communications. This is towards my BTEC Level 3 qualification.
I have learnt multiple new skills during this year, improving my communication skills, Research skills and Mechanical skills such as hand fitting and using machines such as milling machines and Lathes. I have also improved my Maths skills by completing mechanical principles calculations.
I enjoy Syngenta’s program thoroughly. I enjoy coming to college and learning new things about the different parts of the course and what I will be doing at work next year.
I believe the course to be well structured as it ensures I get the correct amount of hours of off the job training I need. I also think it is better to go to college for the first year as it makes the learning experience faster and I can complete more qualifications in less time. I will also be completing my HNC qualification which I think is a great opportunity that this course provides me with.
I receive a substantial amount of support from my employer, this includes getting regular calls and checkups with my manager.
I receive a considerable amount of support from Appris as I get regular feedback of how well I am working in the training centre and I can get help with my work if necessary.
I am learning practical skills to do with Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Milling activities, Hand fitting and using a Lathe. There are more skills that will prove helpful at work such as communication and time management.
There is not really the facility for extra-curricular activities at my workplace.
Yes
I believe Syngenta is a great opportunity for someone that likes more hands on learning. They provide a great level of support and I enjoy the course a lot. Syngenta helps build experience and knowledge, which is important when setting up your future.
For others applying to Syngenta’s Mechanical Engineering role, I would say it is important that you manage your time correctly when doing off the job training at the training centre to ensure you keep on top of work.
