  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently rotates across placements in Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain and CDT. I’ve undertaken a role as a Social Media Executive managing social accounts for key brands, I’ve also done a eCommerce sales executive role and I’m currently in a Customer facing supply chain role. My current day to day role involves running relevant trackers and following up with customers to make sure that orders are in in line with the plan. I also go to Sheffield Hallam for studies every 6 weeks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I’ve learnt so many new skills in this apprenticeship in particular communication, people management, time management, project management. Particularly as I joined straight from school I’ve also developed professionalism skills working in such a large organisation. The experience has been invaluable and I’ve learnt and developed so much.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutely love the programme nestle provide and honestly couldn’t have chosen a better opportunity. The business as a whole is fantastic to work for and really values and looks after employees with flexible working policies and so many benefits. From an apprenticeship point of view I’m able to gain so much varied experience which I’m sure will be invaluable to me in my later career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well set up and structured as it has been taking place for a long time. The trips to Sheffield are always well planned and co-ordinated and I’ve never had any issues with things not being structured enough. The only thing that some may find difficult is the last minute notice of what role you will be moving into for your next rotation and the lack on influence over this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We received a huge amount of support from the employer both with the day job and with university work. Nestle is always good at co-ordinating the link between the two parts of the role. The only thing I would say is that there is sometimes a lack of support from line managers with uni work, particularly as they don’t understand the requirements of the off the job learning time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive relatively good support from Sheffield Hallam however there is clear differences in the support and ability of the lecturers. We have recently had a big issue with the marking of one of our assignments and to be honest the unis response was poor. We’ve also changed course leader 3 times in the 2 years we have been on scheme so this makes it difficult to build relationships.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don’t think there are huge links between my day to day job and the qualification. However having the degree certainly helps in terms of developing other skills such as communication and people management tips.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, as part of most teams there are various social committees and events to get involved with. There is also a large cohort of Nestle apprentices that often Organise social events and activities together with one another so it’s a great opportunity to meet new people and make friends.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Nestle to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I couldn’t think of anywhere I would rather work, due to the flexibility and responsibility we are given. Nestle clearly values their employees a lot and are very generous in terms of holidays, flexible benefits, working from home etc.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nestle?
  • I would say be yourself, there is such a range of people at Nestle they aren’t looking for one specific thing. They value everyone’s differences and are looking for people that have had an impact in some way shape or form. For example in my cohort, someone took part in various fund raising opportunities, and I myself had ran my own small enterprise which I think is what helped us be successful.
