  • Assessing, quantifying and paying invoices for work carried out on the Hinkley Point C project. Accepting quotations, sending out compensation events, and instructing subcontractors for work to be carried out on site. Reviewing rates on contracts and any related law.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Proficient in Excel by learning a host of new functions such as linking sheets and VLOOKUP. Maths has greatly improved as well as communicating with subcontractors.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much, I learn something new every day especially working on a nuclear power station. The scale is enormous.

  • Very structured.

  • A lot of support. They have their own placement programme with regular checkpoints. A lot of support from my line manager and colleagues around.

  • A lot, been put on an RICS path.

  • Could be better, move away from traditional taking off skills and focus on being up to speed with Excel and other new skills.

  • Yes, multiple commercial meals and parties such as Summer social and Christmas parties.

  • Yes

  • Great working environment, salary and benefits. Projects such as HPC and HS2.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • Do not be afraid to ask questions. If you are a quantity surveyor, think of the money as being your own and think about the rates.
