  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the head office recruitment team so I facilitate the recruitment process for a wide variety of roles across all departments in head office, such as, IT, HR, Payroll, procurement and many more. This involves meeting with hiring managers who wish to recruit to gain an understanding of the role, posting an advert, sifting applications and conducting telephone interviews with suitable candidates. I then arrange final stage interviews for the hiring manager,

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While working in my current role i have both develped my existing skills and learnt new skills. I have developed my time management skills, increased my expertise at telephone interviews and further developed my stakeholder management skills through further recuitment and working for a more extensive network. I have also learnt recruitment skills required for specific departments such as IT which I had not recruited for previosuly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the learning element of the programme a lot. I enjoy furthering my HR knowledge, particularly in areas outside of the teams I usually work in. However sometimes I struggle with the amount of hours that need to be logged as part of the apprenticeship because it does not take me very long to complete the online learning so therefore I have to find a lot other other learning time elsewhere which feels excessive.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised and structured, there are clear learning sections on the online learning platform. with deadlines for each so i always know what i am working towards. The topics are well distributed throughout the year. However the system does freeze and not save my work sometimes which can be frustrating.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. I was very heavily encouraged to do my qualification by my employer. There are also a large number of people in my department who have done this qualification so I have a lot of support. My manager is also very supportive and always available to answer questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I do feel it is very relevant to my role,. the modules I have studied so far have definitely had a positive impact. Particularly, diversity and inclusion, this topic is very relevant to my role and I found it very interesting. Other particularly applicable modules have been time management, because Lidl works at a very fast pace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

  • 9a. Would you recommend Lidl to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because there is a lot of opportunity. There are a wide variety of roles and departments and if you are prepared to work hard in your role then there is usually a lot of opportunity to progress and develop your career. It is also very good that they provide training opportunities such as apprenticeships.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lidl?
  • Apply for roles which suit your previous experience and for which you meet the requirements. I would then say be prompt in responding to all correspondence from the recruitment team. Prepare for and take your phone interview seriously. Also use the STAR method when answering all competency based questions.
