  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

    • I work within the temporary works team on site at Hinkley Point C, where Balfour Beatty is contracted to build all the tunnel and marine works for the new nuclear power station.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

    • I have learnt what is involved for a job in contracting and have developed my communication and organisation skills for my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

    • I have really enjoyed being within my team. I have felt they have been really supportive by creating time to explain tasks to me and check in on me. However, the long travel to site has impacted my willingness to get more involved sometimes.

    • My line manager has been really good at supporting me, however I do believe the company as a whole dose not organise the industrial placement students.

    • My team and line manager have been very supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

    • Even though as an industrial placement student I was not looking to complete a qualification, for the year I was still offered a chance to complete a Tech Eng if I wanted to and would have been supported to do so.

    • N/A.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

    • Excluding Christmas and summer parties, little to no work events were available.

    • No

  • 9b. Why?

    • Depends a lot on which project you are placed in, but from my experience I have been able to work on a very interesting project.

    • Be confident to ask for experience in any areas you are interested in.
