i am a client account manager within the etd space. my role requires me to answer and resolve client questions and queries related to our etd business: such as reporting, transactions or trading. i am also the main escalation point for the client and help them to navigate different teams at ubs
i have learnt and developed numerous skills since undertaking my apprenticeship; I have learned how to navigate a professional environment which includes networking skills, managing conflicts of interest, handling difficult conversations. I have also learned technical skills which relate to my job and the wider financial services industry. my organization, attention to detail and time management skills have also been improved.
i have really enjoyed my program due to a number of reasons; i have had the opportunity to work in a professional environment whilst gaining qualifications and learning new skills. i have been able to expand my professional network and build a brand for myself within the company, whilst also meetings other apprentices.
my program has been structed fairly well given that it took place during the pandemic. i would have preferred more in person training. i was given off the job time to complete my studies however during exam and deadline times i found it challenging to manage my workload and apprenticeship work.
i receive a lot of support from my employer which includes; HR, the apprenticeship support team, my line manager, my university, my lecturers and external sources of support are also highlighted throughout the program. when i have been challenged, each of the teams have been very helpful in resolving my issues
i have received good support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. however, at time i thought that they could have provided additional materials and resources to support learning, in particular ones which are tailored to our exams (such as questions banks or summary chapters for each topic)
i think the qualifications i have gained have helped me to better understand the industry in which i work in, such as products, participants and markets. it has also helped me to understand more technical aspects which directly relate to my role, such as excel skills including formulas and coding
there are many extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. these include sport clubs such as netball or football, charity events such as bake sales of volunteering, committees such as pride or diversity and inclusion. there are also apprentice specific groups and activities which include networking events across the firm
Yes
i would recommend UBS as an employer as they are a large company with many opportunities; you get to view many different roles and areas within finance and have exposure to different client types and products. they have a large network to support junior career development and tailor qualifications and meet your interests and career aspirations.
research the company and area you are interested in beforehand, it is a good way to show you are engaged and proactive. make sure to have an up to date CV which highlights your skills and achievements, try and link these skills to the job role. make sure to ask the interviewer smart questions
