My role consists of managing and maintaining the hospital at royal Surrey hospital in Guildford. I work with a diverse team, who are skilled in many fields, the day to day role consists off fixing lights and installing lights in wards to unblocking toilets.
I’ve learned how to handle tools and using them in an effective manner. I’ve learned how to use correct PPE before starting the job.
I enjoy the practical side and working in the hospital I get to learn everything. The environment is stressful however it’s extremely rewarding knowing our efforts are keeping lives and saving them.
I would say it’s organised however there are a lot of pressures, as the colleges have multiple issues which make the learning experience not very pleasant.
I would say I receive the best support, however I wish they could have more time for apprentices as I don’t feel like we are heard enough.
I feel like more work is to be done as I do not get the 1-1 meetings to review what’s going right and wrong. Instead they wait for the matter to reach a point where you feel like quitting.
I believe I need to learn more as the learning is very fast paced. But my qualifications have helped me as I have some knowledge of the basics which sets me above my peers.
There are social activities, I wish there could be more as this would create a more positive environment for apprentices.
Yes
Even though there are multiple issues, I see the opportunity to learn and grow.
Ask lots of questions as there were many things I had to find out by myself as an apprentice.
