Day to day life varies. Some of the apprenticeship is in the operation so you will be on shift work dealing with our customers on checkin and at the gate. Whilst the other part of the apprenticeship will be head office based with project management, meetings and getting involved with charity work.
I have definitely improved my customer service skills and have also improved my management qualities. The programme is very focused on your development with all the placements carefully chosen to help you thrive and develop. The other benefits constant communication with your managers to ensure you have the right support.
The program is very enjoyable with a variety of tasks that will stretch and challenge you. Being in a vast organisation there is always something new to learn and someone new to meet who will be able to help you develop and help you to work out where you to go.
The program overall has been structured well, there has been some hiccups however both the company and university have been extremely flexible and adaptable to ensure distribution is minimal. Going forward the plan isn’t set in stone which is positive as it allows some flexibility especially as we are the first cohort.
The support received is amazing, not only for the work but also support for your physical and mental health with wide ranging benefits and in house support. Line manager and placement manager are extremely supportive to ensure you have the right placement to allow you to flourish and reach all the KSB needed
The training provided has had some hiccups however the are quick to respond and adapt to our needs. They have provided extra lecturers where we needed and have been able to flex out deadlines due to our work being intense and having shift work. Overall very pleased with the service
The qualification is a degree and helps to see from the business overall and helps us to form understandings of why things are done in certain ways. However it’s not fully integrated yet but os improving after our suggestions to have our business leads in that area we are studying to have some time with us.
There are some at uni however the uni isn’t the closest for people who don’t drive. There are some at work such as Flying Proud (LGBT) and others for religious and ethnic groups. Overall it could be improved but at the moment the balance is ok with our work schedule
Yes
Working for a global brand isn’t something that everyone can do and the opportunities are endless. The benefits of having access to staff travel not only on BA but other airlines are amazing. The support from management and others is second to none and I cannot fault BA for the program
The biggest piece of advice is to show your passion for aviation and show that you are a determined individual. Get involved with extra curricula activities and as much work experience as you can, this will show your determination and reliability which is essential for working in the challenging aviation sector
