My role as a Quantity Surveyor involves the managing of the subcontract liabilities and payments for the work done. I manage relationships with our subcontractors to ensure good faith and applications are received in a timely manner. i also must communicate frequently with operations teams.
i have developed a skill of being very precise as it could be very damaging if you are careless with money while paying subcontracts. i have learnt through my degree how to write academically. i have also learnt how to keep to time restraints and deadlines
I enjoy the programme very much as it provides me with a debt free higher education and the flexibility between work and study
my programme is very organised because of the early careers community within Balfour Beatty and the partnership with Northumbria which allows for dedicated cohorts which allow us to communicate with others on the same course. very structured delivery and forecasted development to stay up to date with progress.
I receive a lot of support from my line manager with all university needs and also I receive support from Balfour Beatty early careers through online seminars and learning opportunities.
I receive adequate support from the University. My lecturers predominantly have been excellent however some have lacked communication about certain aspects of the course however my main point of contact who i have my interim meetings with is excellent.
My qualification has helped me a lot in improving my understanding of my industry and my role within it. whilst most of my day to day training is completed by other colleagues, many of my university modules introduces me to concepts that i will need further on in my career.
At my work they have many opportunities for socials, with the early careers group they host regular social meet ups to allow the apprentices and graduates across Balfour Beatty to become more familiar. the finance and commercial team also have yearly gatherings to discuss business and socialise.
Yes
it is a very welcoming company with a strong sense of community and pride in their emerging talent. they are incredibly flexible and work can include a mixture of working from home and in an office depending on your home life or situation.
I would encourage other applications to apply with a strong advertising CV however during the interview process you should be yourself and be friendly as Balfour Beatty values individuality.
