I update operating procedures, work on the new computer programme we use to track machine performance, maintenance work on the plant and miscellaneous tasks such as ordering signs/boards etc for the site. I also go to university with my apprenticeship for a week at a time every few months.
My computer skills have improved, skills at using hand tools, conversation skills, planning skills, learned how the majority of the process of the factory I work at is done.
I enjoy my programme as there is a wide range of different tasks I am given the chance to do. Also, if I like or am particularly good at a task I am given the chance to do it more and could end up in a job role that involves it, your role isn’t set in stone essentially.
The structure could be better, I could know more what I need to achieve and when by.
Everyone is supportive, sometimes I need to talk to specific people who can help me to do something and all are happy to help even if they are not in my department.
They are always happy to explain something I don’t understand on a task. I am set reasonable amounts of time to submit, with regular reviews to check in on progress.
It gives a good understanding of everything that goes into food manufacturing. One example is food safety, how and why food and drink products are processed in different ways such as baking, frying, sterilisation.
Not really activities, however there are masterclasses on for apprentices and graduates to attend such as how to deal with stress.
Yes
A good employer that cares about their apprentices and their development and wants to see them succeed.
Work hard, it is a difficult application process but it is worth it in the end.
