As a team leader, I help train team members, do the rotas for our ground floor department every week, assist with any complaints guests may have, deal with refunds that need issued, help on reception, the bar and kitchen. I place food/drink orders for the floor as well.
Through working at this hotel, I have gained a lot more confidence from having to speak with guests about their stay/ issues they are having etc. I have also became a lot more accurate in my work and have learned to efficiently delegate tasks out to the team members here.
I enjoy the programme as it has been teaching me a lot of stuff I do not already know. With each mini course, I am having to go and find the information out if I do not know it and be able to relate it back to my work which I like as I am getting more knowledgeable with each one.
It is very well organised and structured. I have support there from my lifetime training coach at all times and if I am struggling with anything I am able to go over it in our meetings, they are very flexible with the speed I learn at too or rescheduling if something comes up.
I receive a good amount of support for this course. My line manager and then his line manager also have both done an apprenticeship with the company so I know I can ask them for help explaining something whenever it is needed. I also have support there off other team leaders that are more experienced than me at other sites which is good.
I know my training provider is doing their best to make sure I pass this apprenticeship and is constantly going above and beyond to help make sure I am confident in knowing what I am to do to pass this course. The support from him is honestly amazing in my opinion.
The qualification requires me to go into more depth and look into things I would not have done before this course so I feel the learning in my role is at its peak in terms of helping me perform better while I am at my workplace.
At my work we do not do anything like this as we work in hospitality. We do have Christmas nights out to get all the team bonding and having a night out enjoying ourselves together outside of the hotel. We also have networking meetings where a couple of people doing well will be chosen to go to a conference/night out with people.
Yes
I would recommend Whitbread to a friend (and have) as you know the employers actually care and have an interest in your personal development and there are so many progression routes in the business so you are always able to work your way up and better yourself at the same time.
The advice I would give to others applying is to make sure the hours are suitable for them and know they may be required to be flexible with their shift times due to how much things can change with hospitality and because we need staff in the building 24/7.
